Dear Ms. Chen,

I am seeking representation for The Salt Road, a literary thriller complete at 92,000 words. It will appeal to readers of Tana French and should sit well beside The Dry on the shelf.

When marine biologist Lena Frost returns to her childhood fishing town to bury her estranged father, she finds his boat scuttled and his name tied to a smuggling route that vanished twenty years ago. The locals want her gone, the harbor master is lying, and the only person willing to talk is the detective who once accused her father of murder. As Lena pulls at the threads, she learns that the truth her father died protecting could also get her killed.

I worked as a fisheries researcher for six years before turning to fiction, and the coastal world of this novel grew out of that time on the water. My short fiction has appeared in two regional anthologies. This is my first novel.

Thank you for your time and consideration. The full manuscript is available on request.

Best regards, Claire Donnelly
